If you launch a fish restaurant and you claim to know a thing or two about cooking fish it's only going to be a matter of time before your own culinary expertise is put to the test! So, when The Times Magazine brought the whole Fishy Fishy family together - Dermot, Paul, James, Dee, Alice and even little Oliver and baby Rupert - to cook up a feast for each other what did it involve ...? ... fish (obviously) chatting, drinking, cooking, laughter, a slight sauce mishap and lots of love. The food wasn't bad either - so much so, they photographed it and shared the recipes with us all. To find out what happened, click here.

Recently, the three of us took Tom Parker Bowles out fishing in Brighton, for our lunch. As one of the best food critics around, it's fair to say we were under pressure to deliver! A bucket full of mackerel later and Loz cooking up a selection of Fishy Fishy dishes for him to taste too, this weekend, in his Live Magazine column, he described Fishy Fishy as 'up there with the best'! Read on to find out more about why he loved it

When we heard about 'The Argus Ale', a locally prepared, limited edition ale produced by Dark Star in Sussex to help raise money for The Argus Appeal, we wanted to try it (obviously!) and to help them sell as much of it as possible!

So, our head chef Loz got busy preparing our most popular dish of Fishy Fishy Fish and Chips ... with a difference. Battered in The Argus Ale, we put added it to our Specials Board and it went down a treat. A local ale, helping the local community using locally sourced ingredients - a perfect match. The Brighton Argus met up with Dermot almost a year to the day since Fishy Fishy opened, to wish everyone at the restaurant a Happy 1st Birthday.

With nearly 10,000 portions of fish and chips fried, over 1,500 spicy crabs cracked, 14,000 litres of wine drunk and 10,000 oysters swallowed, they were keen to find out what the last year has been like and what's in store for the next 12 months.

"Just one year after the launch of Fishy Fishy in Brighton, Dermot, Paul and James announce a sister restaurant to open in Poole, Dorset, later this Summer. July 2010 will see the doors open at Dolphin Quays, overlooking the marina and Brownsey Island, after a renovation by the close-knit Fishy Fishy family.

James will continue to oversee the day to day running of Brighton, whilst Paul will split his time between Brighton and Poole. Dermot said; "We're really proud of what we've all achieved over the past year and together with great feedback from our customers, that's given us the confidence and the opportunity to open in Poole. We're just happy that other people are enjoying Fishy Fishy as much as we are."

FishyFishy's new summer menu stars on Tuesday 6th April and after a long winter break Lobster is back on the menu. Local lobsters disappear from the coast of Brighton in the winter, preferring the quieter deeper waters in the mid channel, away from the crashing waves and swirling sands.

Any lobster sold from about October to the spring will have been flown in from Canada",explained head chef Loz Tallent. "As we only use local fish and seafood we had to take them off the menu, but now the word from our fishermen is that they are back".

The lobster season hits a peak in June/ July when they are the cheapest so expect extra Lobster surprises then.

Dermot O'Leary.

The TV presenter lives for fish - from a boyhood taste of fried mackerel, to opening his own seafood place today. But he tells Jenny McIvor, he won't be eating fish heart again.

Dermot O'Leary, James Ginzler and Paul Shovlin, co-owners of Fishy Fishy, in East Street, Brighton, held an official launch party with friends, family and local suppliers and businesses.
